“With all thy getting,  get understandinG.”
ProvERBS  4:7

Our wayshower and master teacher, Jesus, often spoke about His spiritual powers and made us aware that we also have the same  powers and potentially, even more powers. Jesus was referring to the latent energy within us, and this idea was confirmed in Acts 1:8, “…But, ye shall receive power when the Holy Spirit is come upon you.” Our greatest work on earth is to awaken these qualities under God’s direction.

Jesus was speaking of Fillmore’s twelve spiritual qualities that God instilled in all His children: faith, love, strength, wisdom, power, imagination, understanding, will, order, zeal, elimination, and life. These gifts serve as our foundation to assist us in becoming one with God, one with all men, and one with all life.

12 Powers
Understanding

This is the month of July and we are directing our attention to the development and practice of the attribute of Understanding.

By demonstrating spiritual mindfulness in every thought and act when engaging in the God-given faculties of mind, we have the capacity to regenerate a better world for ourselves and mankind. The twelve innate qualities are all inside each of us; we just have to wake them up and get to know them through concentration, meditation, prayer, and determination, as we are guided by the Holy Spirit.  I agree with Second Corinthians 9:15 which says, “Thanks be to God for his indescribable gifts!”

Thomas Didymus is the disciple who represents understanding.  Thomas had the understanding and ability to think and learn to make deductions and draw conclusions on his own.  His contact with Jesus gives us insight so that we may awaken this spiritual quality in ourselves. He did not mind asking questions, listening to the answers; and if needed, asking for proof of the answers.

The color for July is gold; it is associated with illumination, love, compassion, courage, and wisdom. It inspires knowledge, spirituality and deep understanding of the self and the soul.

Intellectual & Spiritual
Understanding

Let us concentrate on developing the entity of Understanding; generally, it means accepting what you feel is true, and perceiving in the invisible realm of thought. It is our faculty of mind that connects the inner world of thought to the outer world of manifestation.

Although we may fill our consciousness with a variety of information related to Infinite Intelligence, spiritual laws, metaphysical principles, and Truth from outside sources from the physical world, such as teachers, ministers, family, books, television, and media, that information is considered as outside information or intellectual understanding and is not complete within itself.  Just as John the Baptist pointed the way for Jesus, John is not the way; and intellectual understanding points the way for us, but it is not the way for us. The Christ-centered way as Jesus demonstrated, is to first become familiar with intellectual understanding and then spiritual understanding.  Combining both, we must go within in prayer and meditation to allow the light of spiritual understanding to bask within our being. This process is very likely to rearrange our entire structures and values beyond our  most promising dreams.

Spiritual Understanding refers to understanding from the inner senses, such as intuition (instinct, feelings of the heart, and reasoning) and inspiration (divine information, divine guidance–the still, small voice of God). Spiritual Understanding is inherited from Universal wisdom and involves a spiritualistic acceptance. It also requires an openness and a knowingness that inside of us exists all the good we will ever need.”

In order that we may live a full, God-centered, and informed life, one must include both levels of understanding.  This is important, as together they have a great influence on one’s overall choices and decisions.

Spiritual Understanding

The faculty of spiritual Understanding is important in developing our spiritual nature. It is the faculty that puts a foundation or feet under our prayers, and authenticity to our imagination. It is an entity that introduces structure, rules, guidelines, and spiritual laws by which we are to live. Spiritual understanding is a spiritual birth; a mystical revelation within the heart of man from the omnipotent, all-knowing God. It makes strong our spiritual practice and affords us a solid foundation on which to depend. With spiritual understanding comes insight, and persons who have it have a new light on the scriptures and is confident within self without seeking the approval of others.

The story of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ is an interesting and clear comparison of intellectual and spiritual understanding. As it illustrates the level of spiritual awakening of both men. John the Baptist had not yet reached full spirituality and awareness; therefore, his level of spiritual development can be categorized as intellectual understanding.  On the other hand, Jesus’ development represents total and complete spiritual understanding.  Intellectual understanding comes first in the soul’s development, then deeper understanding of principles follows.

John the Baptist was a great man, he was heart centered, well studied, spiritually inclined in seeking Truth through books and other outside sources. He came first and pointed the way for Jesus.

Imagine yourself with loads of intellectual power and prowess, due to copious reading from books, manuscripts, media, other pertinent sources, and informed people. This information is great, but it has no spiritual reference, it needs to be practiced and demonstrated under the direction of the Almighty.  In other words, we need to become one with the One. Intellectual information is important and very necessary, for the reason that it refers to knowledge that is much needed in any genre. However, this knowledge alone never ensures life, health, peace, nor riches and honor.

Conclusion

When we realize the abiding presence of the Most High God, and the spiritual powers are integrated into consciousness, we can understand that all we have ever needed or wanted is in the ethers awaiting us; that is, if we will allow ourselves to stay in the energy field to receive. The scripture in Second Peter 1:3, agrees with this concept by stating, “His divine power has given us everything needed for life.”And so it is …
